John “Johnny” Hutchens was born and raised in Charlotte and is a third-generation lawyer. After graduating from Charlotte Latin School, Johnny attended the University of South Carolina and Campbell University School of Law. Following law school, Johnny started his legal career with King Law Offices in 2017. He soon joined the court appointed list and formed a passion for criminal defense that led him to accepting a position with the Inaugural Public Defender’s Office in Judicial District 29A. As a Public Defender, Johnny represented clients facing charges ranging from low level misdemeanors to upper-level felonies and gained valuable trial experience in both District and Superior Court.
Towards the end of 2020, Johnny and his wife moved back to Charlotte where he ventured into civil litigation regarding employment matters in both state and federal court. Johnny eventually found his way back to being a criminal defense attorney in early 2022 and has been using his unique blend of litigation experience to represent individuals facing criminal charges in the Charlotte-Metro area.

Johnny and his wife reside in the Plaza Midwood neighborhood of Charlotte with their dog and cat. Johnny enjoys playing golf, live music, and going to new restaurants. He also enjoys following the South Carolina Gamecocks, Charlotte Hornets, and Carolina Panthers.
