Her approach combines meticulous preparation with a client-first philosophy, ensuring that those she serves feel heard, supported, and represented every step of the way.
Jennifer brings a unique and diverse academic background to her legal practice. Originally from Mississippi, she attended Tulane University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Cellular and Molecular Biology. She then pursued advanced studies at Duke University, obtaining a doctorate in Immunology. Her scientific training honed her skills in research, analysis, and problem-solving—qualities that continue to inform her approach to complex legal matters.
Following her scientific career, Jennifer discovered a passion for law and pursued her Juris Doctorate at Elon University School of Law, where she graduated magna cum laude. During her time at Elon, Jennifer distinguished herself as Editor-in-Chief of the Elon Law Review, showcasing her leadership, editorial skills, and scholarly dedication. She gained practical legal experience through internships with the North Carolina Court of Appeals and the Southern Environmental Law Center. These opportunities deepened her understanding of appellate practice, environmental regulation, and the interplay between law, policy, and real-world challenges.
Jennifer further expanded her expertise as a legal fellow with the Center on Addiction and Public Policy at the O’Neill Institute of Georgetown Law Center. In this role, she engaged in extensive research and writing on federal regulations governing substance use disorder policy. She has been published on multiple occasions, including her article “And MOUD for All: A Proposal to Increase Access to Methadone for the Treatment of Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) in the Federal Prison System” in Volume 16 of the Elon Law Review. Her scholarly work demonstrates a longstanding commitment to public service, reform, and advocacy for vulnerable populations.
Beyond her legal and academic accomplishments, Jennifer is an active member of the legal community. She is a member of the North Carolina State Bar, the North Carolina Bar Association, and the Wake County Bar Association. She was recently appointed to the NCBA Women in the Profession Committee, where she collaborates with colleagues across the state to advance equity, mentorship, and leadership opportunities for women lawyers. Her involvement in professional associations reflects her dedication not only to her clients but also to the growth and betterment of the legal profession.
Jennifer’s career reflects a consistent theme: combining intellectual rigor with a deep commitment to service. Whether in scientific research, public policy, or the practice of family law, she has continually sought to use her skills and knowledge to improve the lives of others. At King Law, she carries forward this mission by advocating for clients facing deeply personal challenges, ensuring that they receive both sound legal advice and the support needed to make thoughtful decisions about their futures.
Outside of the office, Jennifer enjoys a vibrant personal life. She and her partner live in Chapel Hill with their two beloved dogs, Charlie and Mavis. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, reading widely, and cooking Cajun food—a nod to her Mississippi roots and Southern heritage. Her kitchen is often filled with the flavors of New Orleans, and she enjoys sharing her culinary creations with those close to her.
