Michael “Ian” Maddox is a Partner at King Law and a family law attorney at King Law’s Henderson County, North Carolina office and a dedicated member of the King Law Family Law Group. He serves individuals and families across Henderson County and neighboring counties, including Buncombe, Polk, Rutherford, and Transylvania. Ian assists clients with a wide range of legal matters, including divorce and separation, child custody and visitation, child support, spousal support (alimony), equitable distribution of marital property, prenuptial and postnuptial agreements, adoption, and termination of parental rights. His approach is compassionate yet strategic, working to protect his clients’ rights, preserve their relationships with their children, and help them secure the stability they need to move forward with confidence.

Professional Background
Ian’s professional journey is marked by a commitment to service and a broad range of legal experience. He earned his bachelor’s degree in History, Political Science, and Philosophy from Carson-Newman University in 2005. Following graduation, Ian joined the United States Peace Corps, serving for two years in Togo, West Africa, as a Natural Resources Management Volunteer. There, he worked to implement environmentally sustainable and economically resourceful agricultural methods, gaining firsthand experience in problem-solving, cross-cultural communication, and community development.
In 2014, Ian graduated cum laude from Appalachian School of Law in Grundy, Virginia. After law school, Ian spent five years practicing law in the greater New Orleans area, focusing on criminal defense and civil litigation. This background in complex trial work gave him valuable courtroom experience and a deep understanding of how to advocate effectively for his clients, both in negotiations and at trial. He has been practicing law in Western North Carolina since 2021.
Community and Personal Life
Outside of his legal practice, Ian values his role as a husband and father. He and his wife, Laura, are raising their three children, Eli, Cecilia, and Lily, in Hendersonville. In his spare time, Ian enjoys spending time outdoors, traveling, reading, and following his favorite sports teams.
