There are many times when a former significant other calls the Department of Social Services on the other parent. While the person making the report is anonymous, it can be evident of who made the report. Unfortunately, a majority of these reports are done so in a vindictive manner. Sometimes the report is in good intentions and there are legitimate concerns, but there are times that the report is unfounded.
For every report, the Department of Social Services has a duty to investigate that report. This may be through a home visit, visit to the children at school, telephone call, etc. It could go as far as a Petition being filed in court alleging Abuse, Neglect, or Dependency. How you respond to the report and investigation sets forth the groundwork of DSS’ involvement. Every case is different with various aspects including the family, situation, and social worker.
The attorneys at King Law have years of experience with custody matters and dealing with Department of Social Services as we approach these issues with a dual purpose: react to the report and its allegations, but also proactively move forward for the best interest of the minor child(ren) and our client. Attorney Hannah Miller in our Hickory, North Carolina office has worked with many families and social workers in Catawba County to protect the best interest of the children.
